In 2005, before visual technology lay in our palms, two University of Colorado alumni decided to focus on creating kiosk displays. Plasma and LCD screens were still prohibitively expensive, but Dave Weidner and David Levin knew the costs were dropping and clients were beginning to invest more heavily in visual communications. Four Winds Interactive was born.

Recently, FWI launched 5.0, a new software release. The latest iteration was the result of pouring over client feedback for a year, launching new features, and tweaking existing ones. "We launched a new, user-friendly 'app store' that contains hundreds of images, videos, applications, templates and more that can be used to quickly design and populate visual displays," said cheif of staff Joe Giebel.

Now, Four Winds shifts its focus to mobile, in keeping with client wishes and the larger tech world's quest to pack more pizazz into smaller devices. "This will allow our clients to communicate on a broader, more personal level," Giebel said, "something many clients want to do today.”

FWI plans to reconfigure the experiences it creates with kiosks to resonate on more intimate screens.

Four Winds counts some of the world's largest conglomerates among its clients, having worked with over 4,500 companies in its ten-year lifespan. It serves industries including transportation, hospitality, education, and finance. Its team brings home international experience, shares its results with the local community, and continues to grow along with its neighbors. Colorado is still home. It offers training servies for those who want to do what it does.

“As most of us living here know, Colorado is a pretty special place,” said Giebel. “It's tough to leave."

At home in the area, with ample experience in software and immersed in the community that developed around the local tech boom, Weidner and Levin originally established FWI in Boulder and later relocated to Denver.

"I think a big piece of this culture is seeing how other companies like ours grow and succeed," said Giebel. "We are very proud to be part of this community, and love that we have so many great companies to learn from.”
