What’s Our Dish

Announced in May 2018, Peapod Digital Labs (PDL) is an Ahold Delhaize USA company that powers the eCommerce and digital strategies for the Great Local Brands of Ahold Delhaize USA. Accelerating growth in digital and personalization capabilities, PDL is an innovation lab focused on meeting the changing needs of customers, regardless of when, where, and how consumers choose to shop.

The Job
As the Solution Architect, E-Commerce Network Optimization (Supply Chain), you will help drive omni-channel growth and enable our grocery brands to predict and respond to our customers’ evolving e-commerce needs across 19 states, 2000+ stores, and 25+ e-commerce fulfillment facilities. You’ll be part of the department that partners with our brands to set the strategy for e-commerce fulfillment, and the technical leader on the team that establishes the e-commerce network expansion design, enables the annual strategic planning cycle, drives the three-year e-commerce market outlook, and delivers analytical insights to support significant business decisions for our five multi-billion dollar grocery brands.

Recipe for Success - What's “in store” for the role

You’ll be the technical pillar of the e-commerce network strategy team, and one of the department’s subject matter experts in supply chain optimization. You’ll use your technological expertise, data acumen, and passion for problem-solving to build, maintain, and evolve our data ecosystem and our optimization and analytics toolset, including our three in-house analytical capabilities (network, demand, and capacity modeling). Your day-to-day responsibilities will vary based on our planning cycle and business needs, but will include the following:

  • Enabling the e-commerce network strategy team to answer juicy and ambiguous business questions such as, “How do we support the growing Philadelphia market?” and “How many e-commerce sales can we capture in 2025?” and “What’s the capital investment needed to expand our e-commerce reach to rural customers?”

  • Owning our solution and data ecosystem end-to-end, leading the full lifecycle of feature implementation (design, development, testing, deployment), driving feature prioritization and requirements gathering, developing our function’s product roadmaps and future state vision, managing third-party vendors, minimizing our technical debt, and implementing processes and methods to ensure our solutions are streamlined, efficient, and up-to-date

  • Guiding the technical direction of our team by improving our design, development, testing, and deployment processes and templates, establishing our coding standards, automating manual processes, evaluating and improving our solution documentation, and coaching our technical analysts to develop a nimble and effective technical team

  • Evolving our solution landscape by keeping up with company-wide growth ambitions, brand direction, and industry trends, learning and implementing leading practices, engaging with external tool communities, and developing new models and solutions to stay ahead of changing business needs

  • Governing our entire data ecosystem (all data inputs, outputs, storage, and integration), by implementing systems to improve the collection, cleansing, and validation of solution inputs, and ensure integrity and accuracy of outputs, and establishing database standards and procedures

  • Analyzing data outputs with team members (technical colleagues and brand liaisons) and cross-functional partners to produce data-driven insights and visualizations to address business challenges and key strategic decisions

  • Driving continuous improvement and supporting the future of our team and department via monthly retrospectives, effort estimation and budgeting, process definition and enhancements, project prioritization, artifact and template development, and contribution to department initiatives

The Essentials In Your Cart - The required ingredients

  • Work Experience (8+ years) in owning, maintaining, and delivering optimization and advanced analytics tools and insights in a supply chain organization, with a passion and knowledge for any of the following: network optimization, supply chain design, mathematical modeling, prescriptive analytics, data science, data engineering

  • Degree or Equivalent Experience in Information Systems, Operations Research, Supply Chain Management, Statistics, Data Science/Analytics, Industrial Engineering, or similar fields

  • Core Competencies in managing end-to-end modeling processes, supporting the software development lifecycle (e.g., waterfall, agile), analyzing and presenting data, building models across multiple programming languages, and implementing, configuring, and enhancing solver-based optimization products

  • Hard Skills and hands-on experience in linear programming, coding, database management and design, data integration, data querying, data analysis, and performance tuning

  • Soft Skills and demonstrated success in solution design and deployment, solution and database maintenance, project management, requirements gathering, cross-functional collaboration, process mapping, and communication across varying levels of technical aptitude

  • Software or Programming experience in optimization products and platforms (AIMMS, CPLEX, Gurobi, FICO Mosel Xpress, Llamasoft, IBM LogicNetPlus, Blue Yonder Supply Chain Strategist, SAP APO SNP, or equivalent), data querying and visualization tools (Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI, or equivalent), relational database management (SQL skills preferred) and coding languages (Python, R, Java)

  • Background in retail (e-commerce ideal!) or CPG supply chain, ideally with exposure to geospatial analysis, network optimization and design, and long-term strategic planning
