Role-Specific Competencies:

  • Focus: Ensure a technical vision and architecture is documented and well understood by each member of the product and engineering team. This document should show obvious ties to company and product vision, goals, and desired future states.

 

  • Product Planning: Work closely with the VP Product to plan product initiatives based on the product roadmap, capacity, skill sets, and technology platform for short-term and longer-term timelines.

 

  • Software Design and Development: Leverage your experience to evaluate and drive technology decisions that scale both technically and operationally while upholding the user experience and business needs. Own the Agile Software Development process and its implementation/efficacy among the team and organization.

 

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure implementation and execution of a QA process that is consistent with SaaS best practices including clearly defined test cases and adequate test coverage that enables goals for defect rate and availability to be met.

 

  • People Management: Foster a collaborative, productive environment while establishing clear expectations, accountability, and goals for the team. Successfully grow, lead and mentor engineering teams. Coaches the team to higher levels of maturity at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization.

 

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Ensure each engineer works closely with cross-functional partners to optimize requirements, design, and implementation. Ensure engineers develop an in-depth understanding of their external and internal customers’ processes so that they can innovate after receiving requirements and pain points.

 

  • Technical Operations Management: Ensure high availability of the web application, manage the relationship with service providers, and provide technical support for web application users.

 

  • Financial Management: Quantify resources / budget required for your department to reach its goals. Manage budget regularly to course-correct / make adjustments as needed in between semi-annual planning cycles.

 

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years experience of professional software development experience
  • 7+ years experience successfully leading technical teams of creative, driven software /QA engineers with a subset of these years leading a team in a start-up environment
  • Proven track record of managing teams that consistently deliver high quality commercial software products with user-optimized interactions / workflows
  • Experience with agile software methodology to guide the team on best practices for development and testing processes

Has been part of a team who has architected, implemented and deployed large scale web applications in any of the following areas:

  • Marketing automation
  • Social listening
  • Consumer ratings / opinions
  • Web / mobile user testing
  • Deep understanding of Java EE environments (ie, including servlets, JMS, JPA, and EJB3), relational databases, and Java Script
