The Technical Writer is part of a small team at DigitalGlobe helping to document processes and procedures to move Research and Development initiatives to the market as new DigitalGlobe products. The primary responsibility of the Technical Writer is to design and develop internal documents to communicate new processes and procedures. This position requires collaboration with developers, product managers, and product owners to gather knowledge and organize it into a clearly written, easily understandable format.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, write and edit documents describing processes and procedures for developing new DigitalGlobe products.
  • Learn the current product development procedures in DigitalGlobe and understand new product offerings.
  • Summarize requirements formulated during meetings.
  • Coordinate with Information Architect to organize documentation repositories.
  • Communicate status regularly to project stakeholders and management.
  • Work directly with technical subject matter experts to capture specific knowledge.
  • Create project documentation including the design templates, standards, style guides, technical specifications, and straw models.
  • Write concise, creative, and effective material. Deliverables include design documents and storyboards.
  • Understand and ensure adherence to internal Service Level Agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, standards and processes to maintain consistency and quality with project delivery.

Basic Qualifications

  • Excellent written skills.
  • Ability to deliver high quality documentation paying attention to detail.
  • Talent for quickly grasping complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and pictures.
  • Significant knowledge of documentation development and best practices.
  • Experience documenting operational procedures.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
  • Ability to work effectively with teams but also independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Visio, and Captivate.
  • Experience working within corporate intranet.
  • Experience working for a large software organization.
  • B.S. or B.A. in Journalism, English, communications/technical writing, or other related field and 5 years’ of experience.
  • Proficient in permissions and information repositories within SharePoint and Wiki.
  • Ability to create and edit process visualizations, like flow charts, with a product like Microsoft Visio.
  • Background developing web-based documentation is a plus.
  • Ability to master new documentation tools.
  • If possible, please provide sample work.
  • Ability to analyze and edit technical documentation.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills, flexibility, and be able to work in a team environment. 
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects, appropriately manage expectations, and communicate complex issues in an easy to understand format.
