As a SQL DBA, you’ll help manage and optimize the performance and availability of Xero’s SQL Server database platforms.  You will also be involved in the planning and implementation of upgrades and expansions to our database platform including the upgrading and utilization of the latest SQL Server technologies.

 

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Administration of the production database platform
  • Administration of the developer & testing database platforms as required
  • Ensuring that storage, archiving, back-up and recovery processes are functioning correctly
  • Managing database maintenance and other activities
  • Working with Product and Customer Care support teams to support diagnosis and tune the performance of database platform
  • Support product team in new application releases

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • 3+yrs Database Administration Experience in Microsoft SQL Server (2005-2012)
  • BSc in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
  • Strong Transact-SQL development Skills
  • Developing and tuning SQL Server within large deployments.
  • Preferred - Solid programming and scripting skills, preferably in .NET and/or Powershell
  • Preferred - experience with Visual Studio 2008-2010
  • Preferred - Interest or experience with NoSQL technologies
  • Keen interest in new SQL Server technologies, in particular SQL Server 2014

Not only has she grown personally due to this role, but it’s also encouraged her to engage with other engineering teams in an effort to better understand her peers’ needs. She’s currently helping plan an event that will enable Indigenous people to share their unique stories with others in the company.

For instance, he recently took part in a scoping session in order to develop a road map for diverse hiring practices.
