Infrastructure is the ship on which our business and technology sail, and we need a Captain, a hands-on team leader, to champion the design, build, and support of highly available cloud web applications.  Did we mention it is more of a speedboat?  We offer a solid base salary, with annual bonus, and equity.  We can even throw in a few thousand dollars to help you relocate to Denver.

You will get to do these things:

  • Guide the strategic direction for v2.0 of our cloud deployment infrastructure 
  • Lead and develop the technology operations staff
  • Drive reliability of the application stack through continuous improvements
  • Improve operational excellence through automation and scripting
  • Embed with development teams (sprint planning, standups, etc.) to understand functionality being developed
  • Work with release management to deploy applications to development, test, and production environments
  • Enhance continuous build, integration, and deployment processes
  • Evaluate and address factors that affect the reliability of IaaS & PaaS solutions
  • Automate creation and configuration of infrastructure-as-code elements in our AWS environment
  • And yes, you will perform periodic on-call duty as part of the Technology Operations team

We need you to bring these things:

  • Hands on experience managing and deploying full technology stacks
  • High-level proficiency with UNIX command line and scripting languages
  • Practical experience automating continuous application deployments using tools such as Capistrano, Fabric, Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.
  • Experience with version control tools such as SVN and Git
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL technologies such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc.
  • Experience with, and opinions of, system automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, Salt Stack, Vagrant, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting and reporting tools such as Nagios, Logstash, Kibana, Graphite, etc.
  • Experience administering applications within cloud solutions such as AWS EC2, Google Cloud, etc. 
  • Experience with Mesosphere and Docker, or other container-based orchestration systems
  • Ability to diagnose application issues related to CPU, memory and other systems issues
  • Ability to diagnose basic database issues including connectivity, basic performance, etc.
  • Practical knowledge of network technologies such as TCP/IP, web protocols, load balancers, etc.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies
  • Advise leadership in the areas of capacity and performance management
  • Previous leadership and management experience; Strong communication skills and ability to work with and maintain professionalism across multiple business and technical teams

If you bring these as well, great:

  • Previous system, network, or database administration experience
  • Previous development experience with Java or other JVM-based languages
  • Familiarity with AWS EC2 and associated APIs
