Senior Linux System Administrator

Reports to: Information Technology Manager

 

As a Senior Linux Administrator you’ll manage a highly transactional, business critical web application.  In addition to being a hero for our customers by troubleshooting and resolving technical problems, you’ll design new solutions to ensure scalability, reliability, performance, security controls, and improve operational efficiency.  You will also work as part of the Product Operations team, constantly seeking out opportunities to improve the infrastructure and operations of the SurveyGizmo product in order to provide rapid releases of new software.  You will be called upon to assist in quickly resolving issues and proactively developing systems and processes to improve performance, scalability and operating efficiencies.

 

What we want you to do:

·      Work under general supervision

·      Assist with application configuration and deployment of new product releases

·      Develop, monitor and maintain scalable systems

·      Design and deploy new technical solutions to support system scaling and reliability

·      Assist in the day to day operations and monitoring of servers, hardware, operating systems, and databases

·      Work closely with the development team to install and test new components / software

·      Provide internal support to help debug production issues: including pulling internal logs, querying databases, running scripts, etc.

·      Understand and support compliance, security, and data protection requirements

·      Develop and implement scripts to automate common functions and operations

·      Take part in on call rotation for after hours response

·      Advocate the values and bottom lines of the overall organization: Great Service, Great Software, Great Finance and Be Happy.

 

What you need to succeed:

·      3+ years of experience managing LAMP based production systems

·      Experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, S3, ELB, Cloudfront, VPC, etc)

·      Experience supporting and troubleshooting a highly transactional web applications using Nagios, Ganglia/Collectd, puppet, Cassandra or other tools as needed

·      Strong communication, customer service, and problem solving skills

·      Ability to adapt to changes and comfortable in fast paced collaborative team environment

·      Ability to prioritize issues quickly, always keeping in mind the customer experience

·      Fluent in command line system administration:  Bash, VIM, SSH
