The HomeAdvisor Technology team is looking for a Senior Director, Technical Operations to bring the energy and ownership needed to a rapidly expanding environment. You will be a key owner in determining the strategic direction of HomeAdvisor’s data center operations and enterprise infrastructure, including managing the team, and planning and directing operational objectives.

 

This position will evaluate long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical plans that support the business objectives of the company. You need to bring a hands-on, “roll up your sleeves,” collaborative style of working. You must be highly motivated and have deep technical credibility with engineering organizations, and ability to recruit top Database, System, and Network engineers.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Own the environment: Oversee data center operations of a multi-platform hybrid environment, including establishing key KPIs, SLAs, metrics and measurements, and communicating platform health through operational reviews. Define policies, procedures, and standards related to performance, capacity, high availability, continuity, and security.
  • Manage the team: Oversight and strategic direction of networking, Enterprise Storage, VMWare ESX environment, Enterprise Data Backup, and Data replication/DR.
  • Provide leadership: Supervision and performance management to the Technical Operations department through managerial levels. Establish department goals, objectives and performance expectations for direct reports and the department. Provide priorities, ongoing feedback and recognition.
  • Security and Compliance: Oversight and governance of Global Controls on all platforms (i.e. OS levels, PCI/SOX, security and vulnerability patching). Support internal and external audits through documentation and management of controls.
  • Communication: Develop and communication cost estimates, business plans, timelines and contingency plans for responsible projects.
  • Business Continuity: Assist with the design and implementation of disaster recovery preparedness, detailed project and program management, data center move process, and logistics coordination.
  • Monitor Scalability: Identify and implement routine review of critical metrics necessary to monitor the performance of overall operations including: capacity, availability, budget, and inventory.

 

Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelors or Engineering degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years’ experience running a 24x7 operations with uptime and performance requirements, including experience with capacity planning, utilization review, and performance monitoring.
  • Minimum 7 years of management experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with data center operations, systems administration and/or networking administration experience preferred.
  • Advanced understanding of IP and Ethernet networking.
  • Advanced experience architecting and managing on premise and cloud-hosted environments.
  • In-depth understanding of all disciplines related to data center construction and management (e.g., DC Power, UPS, power distribution, generators and transfer switches, cabling).

·         Preferred 3 years of experience leveraging and managing public cloud - AWS

  • Advanced understanding of virtualized environments and SAN storage.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

While this role will have a lot of independent direction and projects, teamwork is a huge part of our environment. You must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as strong team management and leadership. This role will work closely with business teams across the organization, from other highly technical, engineering-oriented teams to executive management. Knowing how to prioritize is key, and you’ll need strong project management and multi-tasking skills to be successful here. We need someone who has impeccable listening skills, maintains a cool head when things don’t go as planned, and can converse on technical subjects.
