Craftsy is looking for an engineering leader to take a major role in the development of the world’s premier ecommerce destination for passionate enthusiasts. We’re reinventing retail in the space and our Senior Development Manager will manage a team through the ground up development of our new platform utilizing exceptional leadership and project management skills. This role provides the opportunity to partner on exciting business and technical challenges while positively impacting the growth, engagement and development of our engineering team. 
 
In this role, you’ll have the chance to experiment, learn about and work with the following technologies:
 
Libraries / Frameworks:
  • Java 8 - RxJava, Dropwizard, Hystrix
  • Node.js, React
Platforms / Technologies:
  • AWS - AMI’s, RDS, SQS, SNS, Elasticache, IAM, VPC, Redshift
  • Hashicorp stack - Consul, Terraform, Packer, Vagrant
Deployment and Management:
  • Jira, Jenkins
  • Unit and integration levels, using tools such as Spock, Junit, Selenium, etc.
 
As our Senior Development Manager, you will:
  • Effectively manage resource planning and orchestration for new service oriented architecture built from the ground up 
  • Lead a team of Java platform engineers with mentoring, leadership, and project management responsibilities; ability to break features into stories and follow through against defined deliverables and timelines.
  • Work closely with leaders from Product Development, UX, Front End and Database Architects, QA, and Marketing to understand the business need of a feature or project, and setting expectations for delivery of their desired features.
  • Improve existing Agile process with a focus on enhancing developer velocity and increasing platform quality
  • Mentor, coach, and foster career growth for both junior and senior engineers
 
Your background and experience will likely include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:
  • 2+ years demonstrated team/technical leadership - the ability to coordinate people, build consensus, and take ownership for your solutions; Including experience managing a team of engineers, plus cross functional collaboration and agile development
  • Conversant with service oriented development and reactive programming models and RESTful design patterns
  • Communicate effectively regardless of audience; comfort speaking with technical and non-technical people at all levels across the organization
  • 5+ years of software development experience, with several years of Java development experience, including familiarity at all levels of the stack
