Senior Cloud Architect
What You Will Do in This Role: This is an opportunity to be in at the ground floor of large complex web based cloud system, driving our next generation of cloud and server based device management applications.
Responsible for the internal architectural approach for our desired solution to be used in discussion with third party vendors, the goal is to leverage existing open source and commercially available software through third party integration, while Spectralink engineering focuses on key customized technology related to our devices.
If you’ve “been there, done that” multiple times with cloud products and are interested in actively participating in the evaluations of proposed 3rd party architectures, integration of products and offshore vendor selection this might be the right role for you. You’ll be leading the build vs. buy decisions, outlining various trade off of various architectural approaches and technologies. You know the gotchas of building a major cloud platform and want to share your wisdom with our team and beyond. The vendor will provide the architecture and design, you’ll confirm they make sense given the business requirements.
This role includes extensive onsite and remote collaboration with a team of onshore and offshore developers and an offshore vendor (India), running the project from a tech architecture perspective, evaluating what is being recommended and ultimately built as the single point of contact for technical direction and keeping the vendor on schedule.
Responsibilities: The Senior Cloud Architect provides architectural expertise, advanced systems development and integration expertise for Spectralink’s web based device management and data analytics solutions. This position is responsible for designing the migration path for existing device management software to a cloud environment, the architecture design and implementation of the device management and data analytics roadmap, and planning for key business strategies supporting Spectralink device management and data analytics offerings. The Senior Cloud Architect manages and interfaces with third party developers and internal stakeholders to produce comprehensive cloud and web based software solutions within the workplace mobility market.
- Translate business strategies into architecture guidance for in house and remote software development teams
- Work with business stakeholders to gain support for critical technology investment decisions
- Act as a key advisor to Engineering, Product Management and Executive leadership
- Scope and size technology investments
- Evaluate technologies, vendor solutions and applications
- Manage integration efforts with technology partners and vendors, including offshore vendors
- Create architecture documents, data flow diagrams and software specifications
- Work with Agile development teams to define technology roadmap and priorities
Education and Experience we’d like you to have:
- 10+ years of software development and architecture experience on successfully deployed projects (this is a great opportunity for a manager wanting to move back into a more technical role, tech lead, Principal/ Chief engineer, former CTO of a SaaS/Cloud startup, solutions architect, or systems architect )
- 2+ years’ experience as a software architect with Cloud technologies, responsible for designing large, complex web based applications. (Ideally you’re tool and platform agnostic, picking the best solutions based on the business requirements.)
- Prior experience working with vendors and offshore resources driving product deadlines and successful deliveries.
- Proven ability to collaborate directly with internal and external business partners, ensuring technical solutions deliver on business objectives. Demonstrated ability to leverage enterprise architecture principles to develop business strategies into investable technical roadmaps
- Experience using proven design principles with open-source technologies and standards to promote portability, compatibility, and reuse
- Experience in Mobile technologies and architectural approaches
- Previous experience in working within an Agile framework and with scrum team(s)
Additional Qualifications
- Strong presentation and communication skills with experience providing communication to C level executives
- Ability to assimilate customer requirements and translate those requirements into short and long term roadmaps
- Demonstrated experience with migrations to the Cloud, from both physical & virtual environments
- A balance of knowledge in Operating Systems, networking, security, with prior programming experience.
- Familiarity with Big Data technologies, including Hadoop, MapReduce, Apache Spark, Hive, etc…
- Experience with web application Java technologies such as Spring, Hibernate and Angular.JS a plus
- Experience with Postgres or equivalent database technology a plus
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) a plus
- MA or MS degree in CS, Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering
Location: our newly renovated Boulder office with frequent travel
Travel: Willing to travel internationally to visit overseas vendor two times per quarter, hold valid passport with the ability to attain necessary visas.
