Summary/Objective:

The Property Accountant’s focus and responsibility encompasses all aspects of the Deposit Reconciliation function and all related transactions. The objectives of this role are to mitigate risk from client lease exits through active involvement in recouping security deposits from properties, billing clients for damages, addressing disputes of clients and filing disputes on behalf of the company. This is done through deposit reconciliations and working closely with properties and our internal account managers.

 

The Property Accountant will possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong attention to detail.  While working under specific timelines and guidelines, the Property Accountant will need to have a positive attitude and the mindset to evaluate and improve processes and procedures to benefit not only Accounting but the effect on our clients.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Daily processing of Lease Breaks and Cancellations as they relate to our clients
  • Invoicing clients for cleaning/damages
  • Reviewing rent ledgers for inconsistencies
  • Receiving payment for returned security deposits and making necessary journal entries
  • Compiling move out statements and supporting documentation for Accounts Receivable
  • Reconciling the monthly security deposit in transit account
  • Coordinating actions on inbound or outbound collection efforts
  • Communicating with outside legal counsel as necessary
  • Ability to follow a daily work schedule and prioritize as necessary

 

Competency:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a problem solving role
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to problem solve
  • Computer proficiency, especially Microsoft Outlook and Excel
  • Must be able to work independently as well as take instruction from supervisors
  • Must be able to work with others to obtain necessary information to perform the job

 

Additional Eligibility Qualification:

  • Degree in Accounting preferred, however relevant work skills would be acceptable
  • Experience as a bookkeeper or property accountant highly preferred
  • Knowledge of private and commercial Rental Law beneficial
  • NetSuite Experience a plus

Travel:  There is no expected travel with this position
