We are looking for a Quality Assurance (QA) engineer to help build out our QA process and procedures, and who will manage exploratory and automated tests to ensure product quality.  Tests will include black-box regression tests and tests of new functionality as it is being developed.  You will design and implement tests, perform basic troubleshooting/diagnostics, raise bugs, verify bug fixes, review system requirements, and work with the developers as new functionality is designed and implemented in an agile manner.

Organizationally, you’ll be embedded as part of a small development team, as the sole QA engineer.  You must be able to work well and get along with others, and have a strong focus on supporting your peers and our customers. You must also have a passion to help ensure high quality software to maintain the trust of our highly valued customers, while at the same time work closely and collaboratively with the developers building the software.

We imagine a successful candidate will exhibit traits such as thoroughness, attention to detail, curiosity, is easy to work with, strong written and verbal communication skills, being a team player, and willingness to deeply learn our products and how our users use them.

Our products are all cloud-based, with a mixture of technologies that include Salesforce, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, JavaScript, with some of the applications hosted on Amazon AWS.  Some of the tools we use include Slack and JIRA, and we have some existing regressions tests utilizing Rainforest QA.

QA Engineer responsibilities are:

  • Prepare detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases.

  • Review product requirements and collaborate with the development team as new features are developed, to feed into the creation of new tests, and lead the QA efforts of testing the new functionality.

  • Evaluate and help configure QA testing tools and platforms for QA use (including our current use of Rainforest QA), and implement and maintain tests within that platform and tools.

  • QA testing activities are expected to be a mixture of automated and manual testing.

  • Plan and coordinate testing activities (new or regression), thoroughly identifying and documenting bugs, and testing of the resulting bug fixes.

  • Build and execute automation scripts, likely including the use of open source tools.

  • Organize testing processes for new and existing products to meet client needs.

  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. developers and product managers) to identify system requirements.

  • You will also likely be involved in assisting in documentation efforts of new functionality for end users and/or other teams, and assisting in internal training / handoffs to our support and services organizations.

  • Maintain relevant knowledge about new testing tools and test strategies.

QA Engineer requirements are:

  • 3+ years' experience of working on a QA Engineer position.

  • Have a computer science or engineering background of some kind.

  • Significant experience of working in software development teams and using software QA methodologies and tools.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Solid experience in writing clear, concise and comprehensive test plans and test cases.

  • Experience with automated testing tools such as Selenium.

  • Some knowledge of UNIX/Linux or Mac OS, SQL and unix scripting.

  • Some level of technical understanding of HTML, CSS, and general Web technologies.

  • Understanding of Agile/Scrum development principles.

  • Experience with performance and/or security testing will be a bonus.

  • Experience with iOS/Android mobile testing is a bonus.

  • Experience with end-user triage support is a bonus.

  • Experience with Salesforce is a big bonus.
