Summary

A Systems Architect and Innovation Lead reports to the Director of Innovation and Architecture and provides technical leadership throughout a project, based on years of experience and knowledge of applicable technologies. This role is responsible for designing and engineering major deliverables that have a direct impact on efficiency, cost, revenue and innovation for the company. A successful candidate in this role is a thought leader who is able to clearly see problems and address them in a collaborative manner with co-workers. The scope of deliverables includes: solution design, technology guidance, component and system architectures and delivery logistics. This role is required where a problem is greater than one system development, i.e. in Enterprise situations.

Responsibilities

  • Understand current macro systems design and real-time operations – communicate / translate that design into guidance to development, deployment, and operations regarding recommended strategies for support of the architecture and transition from existing systems to the new architecture
  • Stay abreast of technology trends, identify those that are strategic, validate their capabilities, and evangelize the use of those technologies in upcoming designs and use-cases
  • Evaluate architectural modifications based on business cases for impact, effectiveness,  and ROI
  • Plan long-range business horizon execution (H3:18-36 month) roadmap
  • Drive large- and medium-sized projects through concept phases and into a well-bounded execution phase
  • Own one or more of the following specialty areas: ITAR, NOAA, FCC governance; Cyber Security; Satellite Operations; GIS; Manufacturing Process; DevOps; Infrastructure to include remote systems
  • Train and guide execution teams in new technologies and new approaches
  • Demonstrated Hams, Hackers, and Makers that meet job requirements are encouraged to apply

 

Job Requirements

  • Technical or Engineering Degree required
  • Familiarity with systems engineering and design processes
  • Background in GIS, manufacturing, spacecraft command and control, ground systems infrastructure, and/or recent open source familiarity
  • Demonstrated proficiency in service oriented architectures and distributed systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency in system security, audit, and compliance
  • Previous experience in classified environments is a plus
  • Understanding and some proficiency in elastic computing (internal or public cloud), high-availability systems, Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery architectures, etc.
  • Familiarity with software development practices and various methodologies (Scaled Agile Framework preferred (SAFe)
  • Be able to operate effectively from the business abstract concept level down to the line-of-code and message composition level
  • Be able to compliment and augment a project manager when required
  • Excellent collaboration skills; high-energy attitude
  • 10+ years working experience, with at least 5 years’ experience in a relevant industry
  • Candidate must qualify for a US Government Security Clearance (TS/SCI level required)
