HomeAdvisor is looking for a fast-paced and dynamic Load and Performance Test Engineer to help us determine our platform’s breaking point, and conduct preventative testing to ensure stability and consistency for our users.

We need an experienced Load and Performance Tester to help prevent loading, performance, scalability, and reliability issues as we continue to expand our presence and grow our platform.

What you’ll be doing:

The Load and Performance Test Engineer defines, develops, maintains and executes automated testing related to the performance and volume capacity of our various applications. The Test Engineer is expected to develop the appropriate usage scenarios for automated performance and load testing, execute and monitor performance tests, as well as update technical documentation. It is expected that performance testing is complete and performance risks and/or issues are identified prior to implementation.

Expectations:

  • Determine the breaking point of our platform through the development of relevant tools and tests, and conducting preventative automated testing
  • Refining requirements for performance/load testing as well as coordinating test executions
  • Run robust tests, and use a mixture of monitoring tools to identify and mitigate possible reliability and performance issues in a predictive fashion
  • Developing performance, stability, scalability, and reliability tools and tests
  • Perform root cause analysis, and create reports that describe detected defects and possible causes
  • Discover platform thresholds and data impact
  • Lead performance, stress, and failover test activities to analyze areas of improvement in our infrastructure layers
  • Collaborate with other business units as needed to gather requirements
  • Communicate and translate business objectives into measureable and testable requirements, analyze platform performance, and evaluate system capacity
Experience and Skills:

What you bring to the table:

  • 3+ years creating or using automated tests tools for Functional, Performance, Stability, Scalability, and Reliability testing for high volume platforms
  • Experience using tools like JMeter, Rest Assured, JIRA, Selenium and/or Appium
  • Development experience with Java, JavaScript, Python, Ruby, and/or Groovy
  • Able to write intermediate to complex SQL code
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to get things done and a proactive approach to testing
  • Awareness of industry performance standards and SLA’s
  • An interest in looking beneath the surface to identify root causes
  • Ability to recognize when an issue needs to be escalated to a higher level
