Our expertise encompasses 360º marketing with deep roots in design and digital and a focus on work in education, social change, sustainability, and natural products.
Job Description
Vermilion is looking for a full stack web developer to help us build beautiful and functional websites for our clients. Our work reflects our values and our team is passionate about ‘growing the good’.
Vermilion is not a software development agency, it's a forward thinking design agency that needs a resourceful developer on staff to build new projects for clients, maintain existing projects and project maintenance, while also helping to guide the future of technology at Vermilion.
You should be ready to play multiple roles across agency life, a 360 degree experience that's in addition to writing excellent code.
You should be excited to work with a creative team that is not all tech savvy, and be ready to build solutions that work for our clients.
You should be ready to jump in and problem-solve solutions as they arise.
You should be willing to occasionally play an IT role for Vermilion's internal systems and hardware.
You'll work closely with our UX/IA designer, digital marketing team, and designers. We are a small and collaborative team, where you will have an important role developing and maintaining client websites, often with 2-3 ongoing projects. Though our digital projects vary, a large portion of our work involves building customized WordPress websites and user interfaces from the ground up. This is also an opportunity to flex your Creative Technology muscles - concepting innovative solutions for clients as part of the proposal process.
The Role + Responsibilities:
Develop and extend WordPress backends for custom website builds
Collaborate with the design and UX teams to create dynamic, responsive websites
Interface with third party APIs such as Google Maps and Salesforce
Work with account managers to develop estimates and ensure that deliverables are completed on time and on budget
Add value during the pitch response process, helping to define innovative approaches that Vermilion is known for
Manage technical communications with clients and account managers, ability to self-direct
Help maintain and improve internal projects such as build and deployment tools
Develop efficient process workflows, and ensure they are rolled out and standardized
What We'd Like To See:
You’re knowledgeable and articulate on IA and UX. You need to be skilled at recommending IA, UX, and UI improvements to designers. And at times, you’ll need to articulate your rationale for those to clients
You use a modern build workflow and tooling for your projects
Strong technical troubleshooting skills and comfort to tackle problems as they arise
Required development skills include:
3+ years of professional web development experience
WordPress custom theme/plugin development from scratch
PHP or similar object oriented programming language
MySQL
Javascript / jQuery / ES6
SCSS
Unix Server Administration
Gitlab and CI deployment experience
Nice to have:
Familiarity with at least one Javascript framework (React, Vue.js, etc.)
Command line tooling (such as webpack)
CI / Docker
Experience with E-commerce (WooCommerce, Shopify, etc.)
Familiarity with Drupal, Django, and other CMS platforms.
