Hi I’m Bret, VP of Engineering at Craftsy, and I lead our energetic and driven Engineering team.

Our mission at Craftsy is to become the premier destination for curated education, inspiration and supplies for passionate makers. Combining cutting edge expertise in digital marketing, technology, content and eCommerce, Craftsy is one of the fastest growing and most successful startups in the US. We’ve raised over $100MM from the world-class investors who backed Facebook, LinkedIn, and Blue Apron. We're located in sunny, stunning Denver, CO, a city ranked consistently as one of the best places to live and home to a thriving startup and business community.

We believe in the power and maintainability of single responsibility code modules, while also sharing code across multiple platforms (Web, iOS, and Android mostly). Though we call ourselves a React and React-Native shop, we’re open to any tool that helps us create a sustainable and cutting edge experience.

In this role you’ll help build out the front-end of our site and native apps. We’re looking for someone who has new ideas and is hungry to continue their career development.

As a Front-End Engineer, you will:
  • Work cross-functionally to create scalable, fast and efficient front-end applications that will drive our company forward
  • Collaborate closely with the front-end team to solve interesting problems
  • Implement powerful, reusable, and extensible JavaScript libraries in a continuously growing codebase
  • Prepare cross-browser/cross-platform compliant JavaScript code for node, modern browsers and native devices.
  • Integrate interactive prototypes (HTML, CSS, React-Native) to create a fluid web and native applications.

What will make you a great fit:
  • Ability to write JavaScript, HTML & CSS
  • Demonstrated experience wiring JavaScript/HTML/CSS/REST stubs
  • Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as React+Flux, Redux, React-Native, Meteor, Knockout or Ember
  • Experience with npm-style packages and dependencies
  • A desire for a fast-paced work environment
  • Experience writing unit and/or functional tests within frameworks like Mocha, Jest, or Selenium
  • Prefer being responsible for your own bugs (No throwing over the fence here!)

What will give you bonus points:
  • Strong understanding of component design and architecture
  • Exposure to redux, omniscient, elm, react-native and/or RxJS
  • Experience developing for a smart mobile platform (iPhone/Android)
  • Appreciation of functional programming concepts (especially immutability, idempotence, and side-effects)

To be considered for this role, please submit:
  • Your resume, of course! Share your professional experience and top accomplishments in one page.
  • Answer the following prompt in place of a traditional cover letter:
    • Tell us about a time you solved an interesting problem outside the scope of your role with code.
