Guild is looking for a Director of Technology to manage our DevOps and SaaS cloud infrastructure, and build out our Information Security Program. You’ll be working across the organization to disseminate your expertise in multiple IT domains including network security, cloud-based infrastructure and overseeing internal IT operations. You’ll work with Jess, Stafford, Sean and others to create high end technology solutions that meet the needs of our students and clients.

This role is great for you if you are excited about making a difference by building and extending the critical technology infrastructure that our business relies on. You’ll do much of that as an individual contributor and will also be responsible for mentoring and building a team. Ensuring availability, security, and confidentiality are our core goals and the cornerstone of our practice.

Please submit answers to the following prompts with your resume:

  1. Where do you see the alignment between Guild’s mission and student population and your personal or professional experience? What are you most excited to contribute?
  2. Tell us about a recent cloud security improvement you architected to meet the needs of a client or employer
  3. Tell us about a recently implemented technology choice, and how it drove your team or business forward

As a Director of Technology at Guild you will:

  • Create resilient and secure architecture patterns for our cloud offerings running on Heroku and AWS
  • Through collaboration with business stakeholders, define uptime and resilience metrics. Build and maintain critical systems to meet those metrics
  • Create solid disaster recovery plans, inclusive of failover, replication, and data governance in our data tier (postgres, elasticsearch, redis, redshift)
  • Build and execute an information security program that aligns with client expectations and industry best practices
  • Collaborate with business development and client partnerships to ensure contractual agreements reflect current and planned technical abilities
  • Lead the implementation and operation of security services such as vulnerability assessments, threat monitoring, penetration testing, and incident management
  • Establish a “Security First” culture in our systems and team mindsets with the help of leaders across the organization
  • Build and manage our technical operations team - including DevOps engineers, IT and helpdesk

We’ll prioritize the following experience and attributes as we evaluate candidates throughout the hiring process:

  • 7+ years experience managing complex environments, including a few years in a management or leadership role
  • Experience managing infrastructure with significant security and compliance requirements
  • Experience with security compliance and risk management including familiarity with SOC2 and ISO 27001 certification
  • Hands-on experience with AWS technologies: EC2, RDS, VPC, etc
  • Experience with DevOps configuration management and automation technologies such as terraform, docker, ansible, chef, vagrant, or other similar technologies
  • Previous experience in a DevOps environment: CI/CD, Immutable infrastructure, and “Configuration as code” are all familiar concepts
  • Hands on experience with log analytic systems (Logrhythm, Splunk, etc) and IDS/IPS approaches
  • Established history of vendor and budget management

Extra Credit / Preferred Technology Experience:

  • Experience with PaaS vendors, such as Heroku
  • Deep understanding of SAML SSO, Oauth, and other authentication protocols
  • Familiarity with SaaS monitoring: New Relic, Datadog, and AWS Cloudwatch
  • You aren’t a developer, but you’ve got a github presence with some meaningful commits

Guild Education believes that a diverse and inclusive team will contribute toward our ability to achieve our mission and will dedicate intentional effort to building a team that reflects that belief.
