Based in Denver and reporting to the VP, Controller, the Director of Accounting will be joining SendGrid at a critical stage of the company’s growth.  As part of the Financial Operations team, this opportunity provides significant insight into the changes a company must embrace as it supports multiple areas of expansion. This is a great role for someone who is excited about contributing to the success of the team. You will be responsible for all core accounting areas as well as leading and developing the accounting team and driving process improvements.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide leadership by managing deliverables, setting expectations, providing ongoing performance feedback, creating opportunities and developing quarterly goals for your team.
  • Responsible for all aspects of accounting operations including procure to pay processes, order to cash, general ledger, and leases.
  • Manage recognition of revenue for SaaS client base and non-recurring revenue streams, and associated commissions structures in accordance with current US GAAP.  Responsible for understanding the new revenue recognition standard and identifying, recommending and implementing best practices to support the change.
  • Oversee billing operations, including invoicing and payment processing as well as credit and collections processes.
  • Implement billing and payment processing in foreign currencies.
  • Responsible for managing  all aspects of month-end close including journal entry approvals, balance sheet reconciliations review and management reporting.
  • Lead and/or support external audits, including quarterly reviews, year-end financial audit, annual bank audit, and tax audits.
  • Provide support for external financial reporting including preparation of footnote disclosures.
  • Drive scalability.  Innovate and automate processes, assess opportunities for efficiencies, determine optimum staff utilization and augmentation.
  • Work with sales team to streamline process between sales and accounting.
  • Ensure appropriate internal controls necessary to support management’s certifications and assertions to investors.
  • Support M&A activities including strategy, planning, diligence and integration
  • Assist in management of treasury function as it relates to cash flow.

About You 
  • 12+ years of experience with a combination of public accounting and industry experience. 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting and preferably an active CPA license. 
  • Proven leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated success in fast paced environment, examples of innovation and process enhancement. 
  • Strong financial and accounting skills.
  • Experience with international business.
  • Strengths include organization, time management, and problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, make, and meet commitments, while working individually and in teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strategic - Provide proactive, meaningful insight & identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. Clear and directly face the strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats.

Bonus Points 
  • SaaS experience highly preferred.
  • Complicated revenue recognition preferred.
