Are you an email deliverability expert looking to join a fast-paced stable startup and make an impact? SendGrid helps our customers maximize the value of their email programs. To do this, we’re expanding our team of “white glove treatment” delivery consultunts to help our larger customers send the right message to the right person at the right time with the right frequency.

Getting good mail delivered isn’t always easy – spammers have made things difficult for the good guys. That’s where you come in. You will help our customers navigate the deliverability minefield, and correct those who stray from the path.

Trust is the foundation of the email ecosystem, and by keeping our traffic clean, SendGrid earns the trust of the world’s largest receivers. You will be part of a team that actively works with and improves the broader email ecosystem. We want to make email better, and are finding creative ways to make it so.

About You

  • You are honest, motivated, connected, eager, experimenting, learning, ethical, driven and talented
  • You are likeable. People enjoy being around you. You can correct someone and have them thank you for it afterward
  • You can assess a situation, choose a course that is right, then persuade others to follow your lead
  • You prefer to be preventative than corrective, but are effective with either approach
  • You are comfortable and effective communicating with technologists, executives, customers and peers, in person, on stage, by phone or in writing
  • You are committed to your team and look for ways to help
  • You prefer to teach someone to fish than give someone a fish
  • You are open to new ideas, new approaches, new connections
  • You have a positive outlook, a can-do attitude, and a quiet confidence born from competence and experience
  • You trust your instincts, but prefer to use data to make your decisions
  • You are not satisfied with the status quo. You keep improving – your self, your tools, your processes, your relationships
  • You have a mature sense of right and wrong, good and bad, true and false
  • You have already earned the trust and respect of leaders in the email community by participating and contributing in meaningful ways
  • You are an analytical thinker who creatively makes sense of data, generates new ideas, takes risks, leads change, encourages innovation, and solves problems
  • You know the methods and tactics of the Dark Side but are eager to push back the darkness of the world. You wear a white hat

What You’ll Do

We’re looking for an experienced email delivery consultant who’s already “been there, done that” for some time. You will report to SendGrid’s VP of Email Delivery. Here are some of the things we expect you’ll be able to do from day one:

  • Work closely with high-value customers to improve their success with email
    • Communicate with customers by phone, email, or in person (occasional travel)
    • Use a variety of tools to assess a sender’s email reputation, message content, log data, email metrics and sending practices. Show them what they’re doing right, what they’re doing wrong, and what they should change to get better results
  • Identify and correct customers who are at risk of violating our terms of service
    • Accurately vet prospects and decide if they meet SendGrid’s standards
    • Kindly but firmly persuade customers to do the right thing – even when they’re tempted to take short cuts. You will frame your suggestions in terms of the customer’s intrest so they’re motivated to follow through with your plan
    • Identify ways to improve SendGrid’s customer provisioning and abuse detection/prevention systems and processes
  • Tune our systems for better delivery or efficiency
    • Help design or build new tools so that our deliverability and compliance teams can work even more efficiently
    • Flip through your rolodex of ISP contacts, call the right person, and troubleshoot a deliverability issue. Worldwide!
    • Set up FBLs and 3rd party scoring systems, and have the patience to troubleshoot and fix them when they break
    • Analyze SMTP response codes and tune delivery parameters
  • Represent SendGrid within the email community
    • Travel to industry conferences multiple times a year (sometimes internationally) and have already contributed your ideas and talents to strengthen the email community
    • Contribute diplomatically on industry discussion lists
    • Share your expertise via blog posts, webinars, or to a crowd from a stage
  • Keep growing
    • Multiply your impact by coaching others – teaching them your secret sauce
    • Keep up to date with ever changing legal requirements, privacy regulations, and email best practices
    • As a bonus, it would help to have experience with system security, computer networking, Unix, email protocols, SQL and troubleshooting skills. If you don’t already write code, it would be a bonus if you’re interested in learning to build your own productivity tools
