As a Data Scientist on the Healthgrades' team, you will support various groups within our company and have a wealth of data at your fingertips (think 45 million records in some cases). This exciting opportunity serves as a key position in the expanding Data Science Department with the goals of enhancing Healthgrades capabilities and opportunities for measurement, clinical outcomes research, and creation of new measures of interest to consumers. 

The Data Scientist supports the Data Science Department by conducting statistical analyses and research which advance Healthgrades strategic initiative to be the leader in providing hospital and physician-related objective, comprehensive, consistent and credible measures of healthcare quality to consumers, and connect consumers with physicians and hospitals that maximize the success of their treatment. Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct statistical analyses and document findings using appropriate statistical methodology and diagnostic/exploratory tests. Translate findings for business and clinical audiences.
  • Perform QA analysis and/or results from other internal and external studies in parallel and document processes and variations in findings.
  • Develop programs using R and/or SQL to assist with or automate iterative analyses.
  • Research, write, and review current or future analysis methodologies and develop new metrics for associated methodologies. Continually research methodologies used by other organizations or researchers.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in applied statistics and/or health care analytics-related field
  • The ideal candidate brings experience with healthcare outcomes data analysis using R
  • Knowledge of and experience using advanced regression methods including, but not limited to HLM, zero-inflated models, count based models, and multinomial logit models in R
  • Experience with large-scale relational data bases, data transformation, and data queries using SQL is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and apply statistical modeling methodologies and analytical tools
  • Experience preparing, writing, and publishing research papers as well as excellent research and evaluation experience including the ability to perform literature searches and apply statistical methods found in the literature
  • Significant experience in providing descriptive explanatory summaries of statistical methods used to a variety of audiences, including consumers, patients and executive leadership
  • Superior communication skills; comfort presenting to analytic and non-analytic audiences
  • Strong initiative and sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Passion for analytical research and for solving problems through intelligent and high-quality research
