In this critical role, you'll apply your technical, scientific, and mathematical expertise to tackle the toughest analytical challenges we're facing. Craftsy is a Denver, CO based company building best-in-class educational and inspirational products for passionate maker enthusiasts. 
 
As a data scientist, you'll work on the following types of projects [by partnering with these teams]:
  • Algorithmic and code improvements to recommender systems [engineering, marketing]
  • Modeling customer behavior; determining segmentation ‘buckets’ [marketing]
  • Metadata/tag (ontology) analysis; discovering market trends [merchandisers]
  • Financial forecasting (e.g. model design & fitting) [business analysts]
 
Your education and scientific/mathematical skills look like the following:
  • Undergrad in Math, Computer Science, Statistics, or related
  • 3+ years post-undergrad, either graduate program or industrial experience
  • Requirement: Proficient in basic linear/matrix algebra (and vectorized computation)
  • Bonus: familiarity with recommender systems (e.g. collaborative filters)
  • Bonus: machine learning (e.g. SVMs, decision trees, random forests), statistical modeling (e.g. Bayesian analysis, generalized linear models)
 
You also have technical skills that impress, including:
  • Proficiency in a statistical/mathematical computing environment:
  • Preference: R or Python (specifically SciPy & NumPy) expertise
  • Bonus: Julia, MATLAB, Octave, etc. experience
  • Comfortable working with large data files/chunks, including transformation and cleaning tasks (i.e. one-off ETL tasks)
  • Requirement: Unix/Linux comfort, AWS toolkit familiarity
  • Database and data warehouse querying ability:
  • Requirement: SQL proficiency
  • Bonus: Google BigTable & BigQuery, Hive/Pig, Spark, Presto experience
