Accounting Manager

Meanwhile, Guild’s network of online, nonprofit universities and learning providers offer a consortium of classes, programs, and college degrees, along with college advising and retention coaching, helping each student navigate the worlds of work and college.

In late 2016, we closed a $8.5M Series A from top tier investors including Redpoint Ventures, Social Capital, Harrison Metal, and Cowboy Ventures and have expanded from our founding team to more than 50 employees. Our clients include Chipotle Mexican Grill, DaVita Healthcare Partners, HealthOne / Hospital Corp of America, Taco Bell, Denver Public School District, and the Public Service Credit Union. Now we’re building out our Finance team to support our growth and scale.

The mission of the Accounting Manager is to…

manage the performance of all accounting transactions and systems to ensure the company’s accounting infrastructure and reporting is built on a solid foundation of scalability, integrity, and accuracy to support our rapidly growing business. This role will have a meaningful impact on the business and our students given the mission-critical nature of our invoicing and payments functions.

If you join Guild’s team as our Accounting Manager you will:

  • Report to Guild’s Director of Finance, Eric Doty
  • Ensure critical accounting processes are effectively, accurately and efficiently completed to support our business and teams
  • Maintain financial accounting under GAAP accounting standards
  • Oversee revenue accounting, revenue recognition, accounts receivable and reconcile cash received to outstanding invoices
  • Facilitate direct billing and invoicing process between Guild, learning suppliers and corporate partners, consistent with partner contracts and policies
  • Prepare and process bi-weekly payroll, in coordination between finance and other departments to ensure maintenance of employee data (including headcount reconciliations)
  • Oversee AP and AR duties and general accounting activities (journal entries, close, prepaid expenses, inventory)
  • Manage monthly accounting close process and provide analytical review of operating results
  • Maintain a detailed rolling weekly/monthly cash flow forecast
  • Prepare month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements and reporting packages
  • Design and make recommendations to improve / evolve accounting processes to support growth and scaling
  • Provide support on special requests and ad-hoc projects as necessary
  • Builds relationships with cross departments to QC data and develop improvements to the system
  • Possess solid understanding of finance principles and practices and ensure that effective controls are in place to comply with all Company financial policies and guidelines

We’ll prioritize the following experience and attributes as we evaluate candidates throughout the hiring process:

  • Evidence of high performance in a similar role/company and a list of references who will endorse your skills and results
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and 6-8 years of solid, progressive accounting experience
  • CPA preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP accounting, revenue recognition and financial reporting procedures
  • Demonstrate knowledge of full-cycle general ledger accounting and internal controls
  • ERP and Microsoft Office suite experience -- specifically Excel
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory role
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in work product
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess problem solving, attention to detail, and analytical skills
  • Must be a self-starter that shows ownership and commitment to the job
  • Ability to effectively prioritize, meet and establish deadlines, and work under pressure
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information, exercise good judgment and discretion in handling and disseminating information
  • Roll-up-the-sleeves, action oriented mindset to have an impact in a fast-paced, rapidly changing growth environment
