ProtectWise is just as covert as you would expect an enterprise network security company to be. Since January of last year, the Denver-based ProtectWise team has been keeping its projects largely under wraps.

But a few investors including Crosslink Capital and Trinity Ventures were clued in on the venture’s specifics before coming on board for the $14 million Series A round, which was closed yesterday. Trinity Ventures led ProtectWise’s $3 million seed round last May.

The team behind ProtectWise, which stands at about 20 people, brings a wealth of cloud and enterprise experience from companies such as McAfee, Mx Logic and GDX. ProtectWise founder and CEO Scott Chasin was previously CTO for McAfee/Intel Cloud Security; CTO Gene Stevens was a product engineer for McAfee; VP of Engineering Craig Wu previously led product development at Ping Identity.

ProtectWise is joining fellow venture-backed Colorado companies in the security realm like JumpCloud and LogRhythm and also the dozens of companies like Peak, Solidfire, OpenLogic and Rally Software that are making Colorado known for its cloud technology.
