As one of the event organizers for Go Code Colorado, I have had the pleasure of traveling around the state to each of the 5 locations to look at the sites, and well, organize.
Each site has a truly unique flavor and each one has impressed me in so many different ways.
I rode the slide at OtterBox, saw the robotics, 3D printing labs and an impressive collection of growing businesses at the Business Incubator Center in Grand Junction, and of course, Rally Software always holds a soft spot in my heart —- it’s in my backyard and they are so fantastic to work with (and organized!). But no one has impressed me more than the group at Epicentral Coworking in Colorado Springs. Be on alert — they are in it to win it.
Let’s list some of the ways they are galvanizing their community:
- Raised $10,000 from Downtown Colorado Springs
- Sending a bus of people to the Kick-off and Final Judging Event
- In-kind donations for hotels to house staff + volunteers
- Finding the all-important Beer sponsor
- Booking photographers, catering + cleaning
- Contacting press
- Contacting local schools and businesses
- Making announcements to everyone that comes in the door
And, they are taking it a step further, trying to raise even more money so that if a Colorado Springs team wins at the finale, they will get additional money for their winning app.
Talk about upping the ante!
The great folks behind this effort are Hannah Parsons, Lisa Tessarowicz of Epicentral Coworking and Sarah Harris of Downtown Colorado Springs.
It is this kind of effort that Go Code Colorado is about — bringing together Tech, Business, Government and the local community to grow the Colorado economy.
Well done Colorado Springs, well done.
