Boulder-based sports management company TeamSnap announced its acquisition of mobile app and former competitor HomeTeam on Wednesday.

TeamSnap, which develops software for remote organization of sports teams and recreational groups, has incorporated HomeTeam’s sports team management technology, as well as its user base of 30,000. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The absorption of HomeTeam, TeamSnap CEO Dave DuPont said, will benefit TeamSnap twofold. Firstly, the acquisition of an app, he hopes, will further establish TeamSnap’s mobile presence. Secondly, in addition to augmenting TeamSnap's functionality and user base, it eliminates a competitor.

“Acquiring HomeTeam is a great step and helps us expand our mobile reach,” DuPont said in a statement. “More than any other time in our history, customers are excited about using TeamSnap’s mobile app.”

“[HomeTeam] had a solid number of customers and teams,” he continued. “We have 7 million customers and are looking to not only grow that, but also be leaders in the sports management tech market.”

In an effort to attract more users, TeamSnap is in the process of developing new features for its mobile app. Among these is TeamSnap Live, which allows spectators to update scores from the field, input stats, do play-by-play, chat with users not at the game, and share photos.

“TeamSnap Live builds on crowdsourcing technology and is a huge part of our strategy to acquire new users,” DuPont said.

Since its 2009 inception, TeamSnap has made four acquisitions (previously acquired companies include Easy Team Manager, WePlay, and RTeamsite). The company has also raised nearly $11.9 million from investors, most of which was contributed by the Foundry Group, who led a $7.5 million Series B round in early 2014. Other investors include Torstar, Trinity Ventures, Toba Capital, and Harris Barton.

TeamSnap now employs 50 people full-time, with plans to continue hiring. No employees from Crescent Computing, the Silicon Valley-based company that developed HomeTeam, will be transferring to TeamSnap, DuPont said.
