Want to work at a Techstars company? These 6 are hiring

by Anthony Sodd

Do you want to work at a Techstars company? Of course you do. Techstars, and the companies that complete their 13 week program are the cream of the startup crop. Collectively they’ve raised over $1.3 billion and the program has an acceptance rate below 1 percent — even Harvard accepts 5.9 percent of applicants. Getting into Techstars makes getting into Harvard look like getting into the University of Arizona.

Here are 6 jobs from companies that graduated from the Techstars program in the last two years. All the companies are young, aggressive and going places. Land a job at any of these and you’ll be going places too. Check them out:

Jr. Account Executive at Kapta

What they do: Kapta makes a cloud-based platform that lets CEOs communicate company goals and track an employee’s contribution to those goals in real-time.

What you’d do: You’d be responsible for getting sales leads and setting up meetings for sales executives.

Who they’re looking for: Someone with two years of experience calling and prospecting leads at an SaaS company.

Why you want to work there: It’s a chance to work at a Techstars company without a ton of experience.

Marketing VP or CMO at hobbyDB

What they do: They are building a huge database for the hobby and collectables market. That market includes everything from electric guitars to collectable teddy bears; and collectively all that stuff is worth over $200 billion.

What you’d do: A ton of C2C marketing and making sense of analytics. Basically, you’d make one person’s collectable teddy bears look really appealing to somebody in the market for collectable teddy bears.

Who they’re looking for: Somebody who can grow with the company and eventually lead a team, but until then, they want somebody that can do it on their own.

Why you want to work there: Given the incredible diversity of stuff listed on hobbyDB, you’d really get to flex your marketing muscles.

Mobile Developer at Stryd

What they do: Stryd makes a dongle that allows runners to see how hard they’re training.

What you’d do: You’d be in charge of making Stryd’s mobile app from concept all the way until it’s installed on people’s phones.

Who they’re looking for: Somebody with a ton of experience in Swift or Java and a good sense of design.

Why you want to work there: It’s kind of like getting the opportunity to code the Fitbit app or the Nike Plus Running app. You knock this one out of the park and the sky's the limit for your future.

C/C++ Developer at Blazing

What they do: Blazing is making a query engine using video graphics cards. If you don’t know what that means, this job probably isn’t for you (but it basically means they’re making a tool to make big data manageable).

What you’d do: You’d work with the CEO and CTO to develop parts of their platform.

Who they’re looking for: Somebody with some serious technical and problem solving skills and the ability to develop and debug software in C/C++.

Why you want to work there: Big data is only getting bigger, and Blazing is at the forefront of creating tools that allow people to actually make sense of monster amounts of the stuff.

Director of Growth and Marketing at Edify

What they do: They make software that makes learning music fun for kids. Ever heard of the Sketch-a-Song app? That was them.

What you’d do: You’d be in charge of growing the company’s user base and marketing their software with a shoestring budget.

Who they’re looking for: Somebody with a couple of years of marketing experience and a thing for music.

Why you want to work there: Your job would be to get kids to learn how to make music. Think about how rewarding it would be to know that sooner or later a couple of those kids are going to be amazing musicians.
