Denver's new startup incubator, The Commons on Champa, opens today

Denver’s newest, and most public startup incubator is set to open today. The Commons on Champa, as it is to be known, is located at 1245 Champa Street, across from the Convention Center and next to the Sculpture Park at the Denver Arts Complex.

“The Commons on Champa is about turning our entrepreneurs’ ideas into successful small businesses and setting them on a solid path to grow right here in Denver,” Denver Mayor Michael B. Hancock said in a statement. “Denver’s ideas economy is booming. This public-private venture is now here to help our innovative community realize their dreams and boldly move to create jobs and opportunity in our city.”

The 20,000 square foot space will be used as a resource for small business owners, startups and entrepreneurs. The space includes a 200-person venue for events, conference rooms and other resources for small business leaders. In addition to simply being a physical location for entrepreneurs to gather, the Commons will also host programming like meetups, panel discussions and business classes. Of course there will also be lightening fast, free Internet.

The Commons aren’t designed to be your typical co-working space or startup incubator. Rather, it is the result of a public-private partnership between the City and County of Denver, the Colorado Technology Association and the Downtown Denver Partnership, and is going to be a public gathering space for any entrepreneur. Services offered at The Commons will be low to no-cost.

The grand opening will be held today at 11:30 a.m., and Mayor Hancock will be in attendance for the ribbon cutting. After the ceremony there will be a community lunch and some panel discussions.
