You will no longer be forced to endure the indignity of waiting in a huge line for your burrito bowl. Yup, Chipotle now delivers in Denver.
The Denver-based fast-casual restaurant has teamed up with the San Francisco-based delivery startup Postmates to deliver meals direct to you – all that’s left for you to do is chew (and pay). The service is available in 67 cities in the United States, including Denver. The cost of delivery will depend on distance, but it will start at $4.99 and be capped at around $7.99 – not a bad deal if you’re ordering in bulk for the office.
Chipotle has never had an official delivery service before, though before the deal you could technically get your Carnitas fix delivered through Postmates and similar services before – just not officially.
The partnership should be mutually beneficial for both Chipotle and Postmates. While Postmates needs exposure, Chipotle’s CEO said they had seen a 30 percent increase in deliveries since Postmates began delivering their food.
Chipotle has been a wild success story since founding as a single restaurant serving University of Denver in 1993. The company that was started with an $85,000 loan from the founder’s father now operates 1,700 restaurants in 5 countries and has revenue in the billions.
Postmates, meanwhile, is a fairly new San Francisco-based startup founded in 2011. The company has a large network of couriers who deliver anything from lunch to office goods – think of it like the Uber of delivery. The Chipotle news comes on the heels of another victory for Postmates: a delivery deal with Starbucks.
